The 5/16 hardened steel contacts and backstop are precision ground, lapped flat, and keyed to maintain orientation of faces. The backstop can be adjusted to center the workpiece, and the top contact can be reversed to present a spherical surface to the workpiece.
The indicator face rotates 360 degrees and locks in place for reading from any direction, and has a double row of graduations for reading in opposite directions, with minus graduations printed in red and plus graduations printed in black for readability.
