They are used a the machine or in the inspection department for gage outside diameters from 2-4. Dimensional Variations are transmitted to the dial indicator through a linear friction free transfer mechanism total enclosed for protection side thrust, foreign matter and coolants. Flat gaging contacts simply measurement close to shoulders, and the sensitive contact, which is raised by a frame mounted thumb lever, may be reversed to present a spherical face to the work.An adjustable back stop simplifies centering the work between the gaging contacts. The contacts and back stop are 5/16 diameter hardened tool steel, precision ground and lapped flat. The contacts are individually adjustable to a maximum 2 range and are locked in position by tightening parallel lock clamps which distribute clamping pressure uniformly to prevent cocking and maintain parallelism of faces. Both contacts are also keyed to maintain orientation of faces regardless of adjustment.
Plus or minus tolerances are read directly from the indicator since the dial face has double row of graduations reading in opposite directions from zero - minus" graduations in red and "plus graduation in black. The indicator can be rotated 360 deg and locked in position to read from any angle, and a fine adjusting screw provides for zero setting the hand. A guard protects the dial indicator from damage when the gage is laid down on bench or machine. The item "Starrett 1150Z-4 Dial Indicator Snap Gage VINTAGE" is in sale since Thursday, March 5, 2015.
