The magnet turns "on" and "off" easily and "sticks" solidly to any smooth steel surface. The Flex-O-Post assembly allows you to adjust it into any position and lock it into place with a turn of the locking lever. Everything will work perfectly for you! This base has a vertical reach of approximately 13 1/2" and a horizontal reach of about 9".
